My first assignment listed here is my reflection on the Vignelli Canon. I enjoyed reading through this and saw a few examples of designs that I felt were creative yet simple, and are designs that will age well over time. The Designblitz was interesting, I felt like I spent the most time on this one because I was analyzing a lot of everyday items more than I typically would. The Design assignments were fun – I got through them pretty quickly and Canva had a very user friendly website that offered a lot. Giphy is what I used to make my gif assignments. I had some issue with it in the beginning but once I figured it out it was smooth sailing.
I think I completed the requirements for each of the assignments this week. The part that gave me the most trouble was using Giphy to make my gifs. Not the entire process, just the beginning. I used the method of taking a YouTube video URL and snipping the video to convert into a gif, but I kept having issues with the URL’s I was trying to use. They have guidelines for using links where it can only be 15 seconds or less, and a limited amount of mb. It was hard to find a YouTube video that met both of those requirements but I eventually found a couple that I was able to convert into gifs. The thing I enjoyed the most was doing the Are We There Yet assignment. I thought it was fun to take an actual photo of myself and put into a new scene. I also liked writing that story specifically, because by now I think it’s becoming evident that I wish I was a famous musician. So writing that story and making that picture let me dive into my fantasy for a little bit.
I learned a lot about different elements of design and how to break down the components of what I’m looking at, whether it be a sign out in public, book covers, or even my insurance card. Something I may consider doing differently is trying to find a variety of websites or applications in order to make my design assignments this week. I used Canva for all of them because once I got familiar with it, I knew I could complete all of the assignments with that websites functions so I ran with it. It’s not a bad thing because now I’m totally comfortable with using that site, and it does offer a lot of resources for making designs and art in general. But I was pretty crunched for time this week so I found that it was the most efficient. Canva had their own variety of tutorials that I used (found some for giphy too, thank goodness) rather than having to figure it out by myself. I don’t have any questions regarding the material this week and I don’t believe anything I created this week had larger issues with society.
