In December on our dairy farm, we take extra care of our newborn calves. Due to it constantly snowing where we live, we usually have to bring them inside the barn as quickly as possible. Each of the calves are provided with a heater and they each have their own warm bottles of milk. Earlier this year, there was a terrible snowstorm.
We had really low temperatures because of the snowstorm and what we provided for the calves wasn’t enough. We decided to use some blankets to wrap them up with and add to their beds, but unfortunately, we didn’t have enough. We couldn’t just run to the store because of the snowstorm and we were afraid that we might get stuck on the side of the road or even worse, crash.
So I collected every blanket I could from my house. The storm passed things went back to normal, but I never got my blankets back. Seeing the calves wrapped up in our blankets brings a smile to our family’s faces and reminds me how important our cows and calves are to us.
